The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recently commissioned CADA Consulting to investigate the availability of fast food outlets and grocery retailers in Northern Ireland and specifically the options close to secondary schools.

Data sources

The data used in this study was as follows:

Businesses: The FSA's Food Hygiene Rating System was used to identify Fast food outlets and grocery retailers and their locations. Data was captured 7/11/2024.
Secondary schools: The Department of Education online school database was used to identify appropriate secondary schools and their locations. Data was captured 14/12/2024.
Population: Population estimates for Local Government Districts were taken from NISRA Census 2021 person and household estimates for Data Zones in Northern Ireland. Data was captured 7/11/24.
